Overview of the Lombok
Located just east of Bali, Lombok is often compared to bali and sometimes called the next Bali, and even though tourism is taking over at a fast pace, with new hotels, villas and an international airport set to open, Lombok is still a much different place the landscape is much different and the people and culture have a unique charm of there own.
Waves
Apart from being home to one of the best left's in the world Desert pt, Lombok also has a host of other waves, although generally these waves aren't as high quality as neighboring islands Bali or Sumbawa, there is a good variety of waves lefts and rights that are perfect for all surfers from beginners up, with most waves being more suited to surfers of average ability than many other areas of Indonesia.
Crowd wise: Like
other areas Lombok can get crowded although
generally the vibe is much more mellow than other
Islands as there is normally
less surfers of more advanced ability and more,
older cruisers and average joe surfers, grupuk is also popular
with Japanese surfers.
Lombok surf spots
Desert Point- One
of the worlds best lefts, Desert point is a barrel
from start to finish that peels perfectly at break
neck speed, a goofy footers dream, as you would
expect breaks over shallow reef, definitely only
for experienced surfers, needs
solid swell to get going a can be fickle.
Grupuk bay- Grupuk
bay has a number of surf spots suitable from
beginners to average surfers, all the waves are
easy fairly mellow but fun waves, slowly peeling
over a sea grass or flat reef bottom, waves include
outside rights, inside rights and don dons a
left and right, kiddies is a beginners right.
Ekas bay- Two
lefts break in this bay outside and inside,
outside lefts can offer long waves with various
section's and some punch, while the inside right and left
are generally, slow fat waves suited to long board riders
and less advanced surfers.
Gili islands- These
small Islands are renowned for there back backer
party scene, magic mushrooms and great diving,
both gili
air and gili trawangan have nice rights but
they require huge swells
from the right
direction to push down the straight,
extremely fickle, if you get to surf here
consider yourself very lucky.
