Grajagan Surfing
Overview of the G-Land
G-Land is located just west of Bali on the eastern tip of Java, and is actually part of a national park, hence there is no town/village or roads near the wave, just a few camps, lots of wild jungle full of monkeys and other animals and off course long hollow lefts.
The Waves
G-Land is considered one of the best lefts in the world, generally waves are long hollow and powerful breaking over shallow coral reef, so are only really suited to better surfers, G-Land also picks up just about more swell than anywhere in Indo, so it is rarely flat and more often than not waves are very solid, like Bali and areas east G-Land sits in an area of trade winds, hence is offshore from around April to October and onshore the rest of the year.(camps are closed then)
Crowd wise
There are three surf camps at G-land all in eye sight of the wave, coupled with G-land being one of the best lefts in the world and yes G-land is more often then not crowded, however one wave here could be the best wave of your life.
Also of note is
being so close to Bali, surfers in Bali will often
watch the internet forecast and plan an G-land attack
for a swell, so more often than not it is at it's most crowded
when good.
G-land is actually made up of a number of waves, that work on different size swells and tides.
Kong's-is
the outside section of reef hence is exposed to the
most swell and most wind, generally Kong's is a
carvable long wall although it also barrels.
Money trees- further
down the point, is true G-Land money trees is very
fast and hollow with big barrels the norm.
Launching pads- is
the next section of reef, often working when money
trees is closing out and as it's name suggest is the
section of reef and main take off area that launches
you into speedies.
Speedies- This
is the true gem of G-Land and as it's name suggest
it's a fast wave and a very round barrel.
Other waves:
Chickens- A more tame left if G-lands a little to much.
20/20's- Offers a fun left and right
Tiger tracks- Short fun right.
